چکیده

We report the discovery of a galaxy cluster at z = 1.41. ISCS J143809+341419 was found in the Spitzer/IRAC Shallow Survey of the Boötes field in the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey carried out by IRAC. The cluster candidate was initially identified as a high density region of objects with photometric redshifts in the range 1.3 < z < 1.5. Optical spectroscopy of a limited number of objects in the region shows that 5 galaxies within a ∼120 arcsec diameter region lie at z = 1.41 ± 0.01. Most of these member galaxies have broad–band colors consistent with the expected spectral energy distribution of a passively–evolving elliptical galaxy formed at high redshift. The redshift of ISCS J143809+341419 is the highest currently known for a spectroscopically-confirmed cluster of galaxies. Preprint typeset using L ATEX style emulateapj v. 6/22/04 CLUSTERING OF i775 DROPOUT GALAXIES AT z ∼ 6 IN GOODS AND THE UDF 1

We measured the angular clustering at z ∼ 6 from a large sample of i775 dropout galaxies (293 with z850≤27.5 from GOODS and 95 with z850≤29.0 from the UDF). Our largest and most complete subsample (having L & 0.5L∗z=6) shows the presence of clustering at 94% significance. For this sample we derive a (co-moving) correlation length of r0 = 4.5 +2.1 −3.2 h −1 72 Mpc and bias b = 4.1 +1.5 −2.6, usi...

Preprint typeset using LATEX style emulateapj v. 10/09/06 GOODS 850-5 — A Z> 4 GALAXY DISCOVERED IN THE SUBMILLIMETER?

We report an SMA interferometric identification of a bright submillimeter source, GOODS 850-5. This source is one of the brightest 850 μm sources in the GOODS-N but is extremely faint at all other wavelengths. It is not detected in the GOODS HST ACS images and only shows a weak 2 σ signal at 1.4 GHz. It is detected in the Spitzer IRAC bands and the MIPS 24 μm band, however, with very low fluxes...

Preprint typeset using L ATEX style emulateapj v. 2/19/04 THE FAINTNESS OF THE 158 µM [C II] TRANSITION IN THE Z=6.42 QUASAR SDSS J1148+5251

We report the non-detection of the [C II] (P3/2 → P1/2) 157.74 μm transition in the z = 6.42 quasar SDSS J1148+5251 after 37.5 hours of integration with the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. This transition is the main cooling line of the star-forming interstellar medium, and usually the brightest FIR line in galaxies. Our observed 1 σ RMS = 1.3 mK in the T ∗ A scale translates to L[CII] < 2.6× 10...

Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal Preprint typeset using L ATEX style emulateapj v. 10/09/06

We present new constraints on the evolution of the early-type galaxy color-magnitude relation (CMR) based on deep near-infrared imaging of a galaxy protocluster at z = 2.16 obtained using NICMOS on-board the Hubble Space Telescope. This field contains a spectroscopically confirmed space-overdensity of Lyman-α and H-α emitting galaxies which surrounds the powerful radio galaxy MRC 1138-262. Usin...

Preprint typeset using L ATEX style emulateapj v. 08/13/06 THE XMM CLUSTER SURVEY: THE DYNAMICAL STATE OF XMMXCS J2215.9 − 1738 AT z = 1.457

We present new spectroscopic observations of the most distant X-ray selected galaxy cluster currently known, XMMXCS J2215.9−1738 at z = 1.457, obtained with the DEIMOS instrument at the W. M. Keck Observatory, and the FORS2 instrument on the ESO Very Large Telescope. Within the cluster virial radius, as estimated from the cluster X-ray properties, we increase the number of known spectroscopic c...
